Abstract:

This seminar considers the practicalities, tactics and issues in litigating competition law in Hong Kong. The first speaker, Mark Hoskins QC of Brick Court Chambers, will discuss strategies for competition litigation, using case law and dealing effectively with expert evidence, drawing from his competition litigation experience in Hong Kong, the UK and before the EU Courts. The second speaker, Kelvin Kwok of the University of Hong Kong and Des Voeux Chambers, will discuss the recent Hong Kong case of Televisions Broadcasts Limited v Communications Authority, and its implications for future competition litigation under the new Competition Ordinance.


 

 About the speakers:

Mark Hoskins QC of Brick Court Chambers specialises in litigating competition law. He recently appeared in the Hong Kong case of Televisions Broadcasts Limited v Communications Authority. He has appeared in many leading cases in the UK including Sainsbury’s v MasterCard, Streetmap v Google and Devenish v Sanofi-Aventis SA. Mark has appeared in over 90 cases before the EU Courts in Luxembourg and is a former référendaire in the Court of Justice. He was Chambers & Partners’ Competition Law Silk of the Year in 2010 and 2013.

Kelvin Kwok specialises in competition law as a barrister at Des Voeux Chambers and an academic at the University of Hong Kong. He has experience handling competition law matters involving dispute resolution, exclusion/exemption-related applications, and advisory work. He currently teaches competition law at the University and has published internationally on the subject. He serves on the Bar Association’s Special Committee on Competition Law, the Consumer Council’s Competition Policy Committee, and the Hong Kong Competition Association’s Executive Committee, and as a Non-Governmental Advisor to the International Competition Network.​
