Abstract:

Over the years the EU project has shown that through collective efforts it is possible to build a strong foundation for peace, solidarity and appreciation of cultural diversity. This collective power has been recently put to the proof by the hardships of the economic crisis, instability in its proximate neighbourhood and unprecedented influx of migrants from the Middle East and Africa. The situation requires new solutions to improve efficiency of EU policies and maintain Europe’s economic advantages and solidarity. Besides all difficulties, the EU also has its broader vision to increase competitiveness and build on its achievements in areas of sustainable development, knowledge-based economy, research and innovation, which are going to play an important role in future EU development as well as international cooperation.
