Dr. Emmanuel Gillet

In the seminar, Ms Mina Ng, IP Enforcement Officer of LVMH Fashion Group Pacific, discussed case studies from around the world to demonstrate the need for close cooperation between law enforcement authorities (in particular HK and the EU) so as to suppress the trade in counterfeited goods – not least with the support of the public. Dr. Emmanuel Gillet, Visiting Scholar of the EUAP, rounded this up with a concise introduction into European and international legal regimes for the protection of intellectual property rights (IPR). These global standards form the basis for combatting the organized crime behind pirating and counterfeiting. Since over 70% of fake goods seized at EU borders still originate in China, the risk of disturbing further expansion of EU-HK/China trade relations remains considerable.
