Guest Lecture on the Holocaust at the Maryknoll Convent School
On 11 April 2014, Dr. Martin Chung of the EUAP was invited by the Hong Kong Holocaust and Tolerance Centre (HKHTC) to give a guest lecture at the Maryknoll Convent School (Secondary Section). Dr. Chung spoke to about 800 students (Forms 1 to 5) on the suggested topic of “The Holocaust and Its Meaning for Us Today”, with the aim of promoting awareness of issues pertaining to human dignity and tolerance, which are enshrined in the Treaty on European Union as among the founding values. Among other things, he elaborated on the legacy of the Shoah in Europe, in particular, the “culture of remembrance” and the Council Framework Decision on Combating Certain Forms and Expressions of Racism and Xenophobia by Means of Criminal Law (2008/913/JHA).
