After travelling to Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Chongqing and Chengdu, author Thea Dorn will be in Hong Kong to meet the local general public and to read selected parts of the book “Die deutsche Seele” which she co-authored with German writer Richard Wagner. The event is jointly organised by the Goethe-Institut Hongkong, European Studies Programme of Hong Kong Baptist University and the European Union Academic Programme Hong Kong.

Thea Dorn, born in 1970 in Offenbach, is a German writer and TV host. She studied philosophy and theatre sciences in Frankfurt, Vienna and Berlin. She received the German Crime Fiction Prize 2000 for her crime fiction “Die Hirnkönigin”. She wrote the scripts for the episodes “Der schwarze Troll” (2003) and “Familienaufstellung” (2007, broadcast 2009) for the German TV series “Tatort”. The book “Die deutsche Seele”, which she wrote together with the German writer Richard Wagner, is released in Chinese translation at the Social Sciences Academic Press in China in 2015.

“From cosiness and constitution, from supper to conflict. Everything that is German. Such a book did not exist yet. Two authors, Thea Dorn and Richard Wagner, how different they might be, explore together lovingly and critically, with knowledge and without fear, what the German soul actually is. They track through different terms such as “supper” and “wanderlust”, “male choir” and “driving pleasure”, “abyss” and “disunity”. In this way a profound and multifaceted German cultural history is created.”

Thea Dorn, geboren 1970 im hessischen Offenbach, ist eine deutsche Schriftstellerin und Fernsehmoderatorin. Sie studierte Philosophie und Theaterwissenschaften in Frankfurt, Wien und Berlin. Für ihren Krimiroman „Die Hirnkönigin” erhielt sie 2000 den „Deutschen Krimi-Preis”. Für den „Tatort” verfasste sie die Drehbücher für die Folgen „Der schwarze Troll” (2003) und „Familienaufstellung” (2007, Ausstrahlung 2009). Das Buch „Die deutsche Seele”, den sie mit dem deutschen Autor Richard Wagner gemeinsam verfasste, wird 2015 beim Social Sciences Academic Press in China erscheinen.

Von Gemütlichkeit und Grundgesetz, von Abendbrot bis Zerrissenheit. Alles was deutsch ist. So ein Buch hat es noch nicht gegeben. Zwei Autoren, Thea Dorn und Richard Wagner, wie sie unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten, erkunden liebevoll und kritisch, kenntnisreich und ohne Berührungsängste, was das eigentlich ist, die deutsche Seele. Sie spüren sie auf in so unterschiedlichen Begriffen wie „Abendbrot” und „Wanderlust”, „Männerchor” und „Fahrvergnügen”, „Abgrund” und „Zerrissenheit”. In sechzig Kapiteln entsteht auf diese Weise eine tiefgründige und facettenreiche Kulturgeschichte des Deutschen.
