The Nobel Peace Prize for the European Union.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the 2012 Nobel Peace Prize to the EU (and its forerunners) for its contributions to peace, democracy and human rights in Europe, the end of East/ West divisions and the settling of many ethically- based conflicts- at a time when the EU project itself seems under strain. Why has the prize been awarded now and what does it mean for Europe’s future? This roundtable discussion will provide insights from academic and diplomatic perspectives.

Discussants:

  •  Mr. Vincent Piket, Head of the EU Office to HK and Macau
  • Dr. Roland Vogt, Acting Director of European Studies, HKU
  • Dr. Krzystof Sliwinski, Assistant Professor at the Dept. of Government and International Studies, HKBU
  • Dr. Kenneth Chan, Associate Professor at the Dept. of Government and International Studies, HKBU
